June TelLIT: Stuart L. Scott and Public Storytelling

TelLIT returns in person - finally! Instead of hosting this event in our Tasting Room, it will be held outdoors on the grassy lawn of Red Lion in Lewiston.

We are inviting local author Stuart L. Scott to talk about his writing and how it served as mental health therapy for PTSD when he retired from a 26-year career as a federal agent. Stuart will have his books available at the event for sale (also available on Amazon and locally "...at Books Too"), which include the titles:

"Gritty, Grisly and Greedy: Stories of True Crimes and Crooks From My 28 Years as a Fed
"Prisoners of War" -- What would a man do if the woman he loved was imprisoned by his government for the crime of 'looking like the enemy'?
"Entrepreneurship 101: Start a Business: A Winery Case Study"

Following Stuart's presentation, we invite the public to participate in our public storytelling competition using the theme "Through the Darkness".

This month’s TelLIT will be a fundraising event for the Through the Darkness Project (throughout the month of June at Jovinea Cellars).

We are partnering with Crosswalk Counseling to raise funds for mental health counseling sessions to local individuals who need the resource, but would not be able to afford it otherwise. Crosswalk Counseling will match dollar for dollar the funds raised in our efforts.

The following donations will be made for this fund:
* Jovinea will donate all tips collected in June and $1 for every bottle of wine sold.
*$1 donation per person that attends our TelLIT Storytelling event on Friday, June 26th (more details for this event follow)

Storytelling Rules:
*Must use the theme "Through the Darkness" (literally or figuratively)
*Stories can be original works or credited to the author and must be memorized. No reading of materials. Any use of props must be approved in advance.
*Stories can be up to 7 minutes in length and can either be original pieces or memorized and credited to the author
*Storytelling judged on performer’s spirit of delivery, appropriateness of story, non-verbal communication, and how well it was rehearsed and smoothness of flow. Final score for the Storyteller will be the average of 2 judge’s scores (see more criteria specifics on our website at jovinea.com)
*All storytellers will be given a voucher for a free glass of wine (or $5.00 merchandise credit) to their next visit to Jovinea Cellars
*The night's storytelling champion will be given a voucher for a free bottle of wine (or $15 merchandise credit) to their next visit to Jovinea Cellars and earn a storytelling spot for the annual Storytelling of Champions event to be held in January 2021.

This event is family-friendly. All ages are welcome to attend, but the subject matter may be best suited for ages 13+. Our wine will not be a part of the night's presentation, but we invite all attendees to come visit our Tasting Room at a future date for free tastings.

Red Lion has donated their outdoor lawn space and will be providing drinks, appetizers, and dinner specials to guests for this event. Please bring your own chairs/blanket and your appetite and support another local business who was gracious enough to accommodate us and host this event for no compensation.

As a courtesy to Red Lion, we ask that you confirm if you are planning to attend and whether or not you will be eating to ensure we do not overwhelm their space and staff.
